Bill MacKentley is still growing lots of cold-hardy plants at his home across town from the new nursery location.  He grew enough for the nursery to list several new trees this year, and this is one of them!

Maclura pomifera, commonly known as Osage Orange, is a hardy deciduous tree celebrated for its adaptability and unique ecological significance.  Many people also know them as "Hedge Apples."  Interestingly, Osage Orange was historically consumed by mammoths! With a distinctive lobed leaf structure and thorny branches, it reaches heights of 20-40 feet. This tree excels in well-drained, fertile soils and is often utilized for erosion control and as a windbreak. Its dense wood is valued for crafting; yet another name for Osage Orange is "Bow-Wood." Its robust growing habit makes it a good choice for a wide variety of climates and landscapes.
