Heartnut - Patenaude selection
Juglans ailanifolia. A new offering! Also known as the Japanese walnut, Heartnuts are another member of the Juglans, this species is native to Japan, and not usually hardy to such northern climates. We are exploring an anomaly! These seedlings were taken from a mother tree in an unusually cold climate in Fort Covington, NY; called to our attention by Paul Patenaude. They have shown promise in our nursery here in Potsdam. Bill MacKentley searched high and low for this variety, for many years. We are not yet able to guarantee them, as we need our customer's cooperation and feedback on them first to further assess this new variety!
